It is with sad hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Audrey Beatrice Day in Noric House on August 19th, 2020 at the age of 95 years.
Audrey is survived by her children, John Day and his daughters, Jennifer and Jackie; Lisabeth (Tom) Stuart and their children, Andrea and Aaron; and Michael (Kathleen) Day and their children, Kristen and Ryan; eight great-grandchildren; her niece, Audrey Needham and family in England; and her cousin, Margaret Major and family in England. She was preceded in death by her husband, William (Bill) and two sisters, Dora and Gladys.
Audrey was the youngest of three daughters born to Gertrude Mary Goodenough and John Cyril E. Adams of Leamington Spa, England on August 8th, 1925. Audrey met Squadron Leader William S. Day, DFC, CD of the Royal Canadian Air Force while he was flying with the Royal Air Force during World War II. They were married April 11th, 1946. The following 21 years of marriage to an Air Force Officer resulted in a hectic but enjoyable life for the couple. After Bill's retirement in 1967 from the Air Force they lived in the Annapolis Valley, Nova Scotia, where Bill was born. After Bill's death, Audrey moved to Vernon, B.C. in 2002 to be near her daughter Lisabeth.
As a young girl Audrey enjoyed tennis, swimming and field hockey, receiving many awards in swimming. Audrey was always active in the community canvassing for Cancer, raising money for Red Cross making quilts, and also canvassing for the Heart & Stroke Foundation. She loved keeping in touch with friends and family through luncheons, coffee mornings, teas and lengthy Christmas letters, always written by hand. While maintaining a busy social life, Audrey's number one love and devotion was as a homemaker and Mother.
In respecting Audrey's wishes, she was cremated and she will be laid to rest at a later date beside her husband at St. Mary's Church in Auburn, Nova Scotia. As an expression of sympathy, those who wish to do so may send donations in memory of Audrey to the Alzheimer Society or the Canadian Cancer Society.
We, Audrey's family wish to thank the loving and caring staff at Noric House for their many kindnesses over the past year, especially those in the Sage Unit. You are too many to mention but a huge and heartfelt thanks to you all.
