Betty passed away December 26th at Heron Grove in Vernon, BC surrounded by the love of her family.

Betty was born on December 22nd, 1926 in Amherstburg, Ontario. In 1948, having graduated with her Nursing Degree from Grace Hospital in Windsor, Ontario, Betty and her friend Ruthie headed out west for an adventure. Arriving in BC, Betty practiced nursing in both Salmon Arm and Vernon hospitals.

In 1951 she married Lyall Hanson and continued to nurse until the birth of their first child.

Over the years Betty volunteered with the Cancer Society, the Arthritis Society, NONA, Birch Lodge, and the United Way. She belonged to Kiwanis and Kinettes, and was a lifetime member of the United Church Women (UCW) Friendship Unit.

Betty loved to travel and through her travels met many people who became lifetime friends. She had a special place in her heart for Fiji and the Yukon.

Betty saw the brighter side of things and had the kindest heart. Those who knew Betty are truly blessed. Betty raised her four children with love and respect, and she will live on in our hearts, and through her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Betty is survived by her loving children and their spouses: Nancy and Wayne Ostafew, John Hanson and Alma Jean Inkster, Jeanne and Dave Arcand, Cathy (Kate) Altwasser.
