In loving memory ~

Bruce was born in Vernon July 19, 1946, to Stuart and Enid Nelson. Growing up, he was active in Sunday School, Boy Scouts, and Air Cadets, and enjoyed playing sports like hockey and softball. He graduated from Vernon High School in 1964. He was also a founding active member of the Kootenay Swim Club in 1966.

At 15, Bruce lost his Dad began seeking spiritually, and during his college years found the faith which became the cornerstone of his life graduating from UVIC in 1969. On July 3, 1970, Bruce married Bev Knipe from Salmo BC after her graduation from UVIC.

Bruce and Bev lived and worked in Prince Rupert, Powell River, and Port Hardy before settling in Chase in 1977. Son Darryl was born in Prince Rupert in 1975, son Randy in Powell River in 1977. Bruce retired from the classroom in 2002 and remained active in several community volunteer activities.

In 2007, Bruce was diagnosed with kidney disease receiving a transplant in 2012 from his brother-in-law, Dan Skalicky, who later passed on in 2020. Bruce's family is forever grateful for this selfless gift of life and health.

In September 2021, Bruce and Bev moved to Olds, Alberta, where their youngest son and family live.

In November 2023, Bruce was diagnosed with lymphoma and after a brave battle passed on peacefully in the early morning of March 8, 2024. He was 77.

Predeceased by his parents, Bruce leaves behind his wife of 53 years, Bev; son Darryl (& Amy, sons Isaac, Owen, and Dane); son Randy (& Rowena, sons Jordy and Mateo), brother Chris of Victoria, many other in-laws, nephews and nieces, family and friends.

A gathering in memory of Bruce will be held in Olds.
