Cliff always said, "There's time to sleep when you're six feet under." After 78 years of hard work and intense play, Cliff's time for sleep found him in his favourite chair-at home on the ranch with his loyal dog, Sadie, by his side for his one final breath.

He had just come back from hunting moose with his sons, a two-week experience that meant the world to him.

In life, he has hunted and fished since he was a young boy on a Saskatchewan farm. He's since built grand houses, dug deep wells, operated heavy duty machines and fixed them in the toughest conditions. He took pride in working harder and longer than anyone, no matter the price or the pain to himself.

Cliff especially loved being with family and friends. He loved barbecuing a big meal, swapping tales by a fire, and serving another round of stiff rums. Always, his laugh was infectious and often, his language was colourful. He had a heart of gold that kept giving until it simply gave out.

Cliff Ronald Elmer Smith is survived by his partner of 18 years, Leslie, and her son, Ben (Tess). Also, he is also survived by three sisters (Irene, Carole, Susan); a brother (Leonard); children from 40 years of marriage-Monty (Marian), Mark and Traci (Michael)-grandchildren Jodi, Samantha, Maaike, Bobby, Dustin, Foster and Truman; and four great grandchildren.

It's time to rest, Papa. Your presence and spirit will be missed.
