July 7, 2023
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Darin Chamberlain, at age 55 years on Friday, July 7, 2023, in Vernon, B.C.
We remember Darin by the love he had for the people in his life, which was immense. He has left in sorrow his parents Gary and Carol, his sister Kelly Tymkiw (Pat), nieces Alexa (Quinn), Olivia, both of whom he adored, Jinju Park the love of his life, Aunts Uncles and Cousins. He also leaves many friends in Vernon from his childhood and many friends in Vancouver where he spent his working years. He was predeceased by his four-legged partner Jimmy who many people knew and loved.
During his life, Darin excelled in various areas and left a lasting impression on those around him. His athletic prowess shone through. He played baseball at the college level in Costa Mesa, California and Caldwell, Idaho. He played semi-pro ball in Saskatchewan. His dedication, teamwork and passion for sports, endeared him to his teammates, many of whom became lifelong friends. During His athletic journey, He developed the Competitive Edge Baseball school; became a Scout for the Seattle Mariners; completed his degree; became a teacher. He taught high school in Hope and Vancouver. He did extensive travelling, and one location he stayed for several years to teach English was Seoul, Korea. It was while he was in Korea that he met Jinju who became such an important part of his life and the connection between them remained strong throughout his life. He subsequently became a successful Realtor in Vancouver, BC where he had many valued colleagues.
To say that Darin loved hugely is testament to the way he was loved in return. His friends were many and they also stayed connected, if sometimes from afar. One of his most steadfast friends was Ted Vanderwal. Ted never ceased to recognize and honour the light within Darin - even on the days when Darin had difficulty seeing it in himself.
Darin will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His warm smile, kind heart, and irrepressible sense of humour will remain in the hearts of those he touched. May his soul find eternal peace.
In honouring Darin's wishes, a private family gathering will take place, to spread his ashes on the BX Trail beside his beloved Jimmy.
