Dirk Wilhelminus Marius Broekhuizen

December 3, 2016

BROEKHUIZEN_DIRK

Dick went to his Lord on December 3, 2016.

He was born on June 20, 1930 in Tull en ‘t Waal, The Netherlands.  In 1963, Dick decided to follow the love of his life and boarded the M.V. Seven Seas, arriving in Canada and married Janny later that year.  Dick and Janny settled in Vernon where they raised two daughters, and for many years, owned Dick’s Auto Centre, a Volkswagen repair business. Although he never played, he adopted the Canada’s national pastime, hockey, with a passion.

Dick was a warm, gracious and loving man, an engaging story teller, and the self-appointed family historian. In his long and happy retirement he was able to pursue his passions for gardening, hiking and singing. Nothing was more dear to his heart than spending time with his children and grandchildren.  Dick will remain forever in the hearts of his wife Janny, daughter Yolanda (children Katelyn, Amielya, Mitchell, and Jenna), and daughter Wendy (children Emily, Chloe, and Daisy).

“k heb gelooft en daarom zing ik”.

In lieu of flowers those friends wishing to make memorial contributions in memory of Dick may do so to The Alzheimer Society of BC 300 828 West 8 Avenue, Vancouver, BC V5Z 1E2.

The Memorial Service for Dick will be held on December 27, 2016 at Knox Presbyterian Church at 10:00 AM with a reception to follow in the church hall.
