In loving memory ~
In loving Memory of Dora Olava (Waage) Vinthers; Born February 20th, 1932, in Simpson, SK and passed away peacefully at the age of 90 on November 30th, 2022, in Vernon, B.C., surrounded by family.
Dora (Dorrie) was born on February 20th, 1932 alongside her twin sister Doris who sadly passed away as an infant. Her older brother Bernhard also passed away at a very young age. In 1935, John and Orma Waage moved with their children Ruth, Dora, and Serina, and settled in Enderby, B.C. It was there, Mary and Clarence were born and they all spent years growing up and working on the farm.
As a young teenager, Dorrie worked at the Kalamalka Hotel in Vernon and the Greyhound Bus station in Salmon Arm. She later moved to Vancouver and was a short-order cook & waitress. It was here she met a handsome customer by the name of "Roy" who later became her husband in September 1954. Roy's job kept them on the move as they transferred to Kamloops, Edmonton, AB, Winnipeg, MB and then back to Vancouver, where they settled in Surrey. While in Kamloops, B.C. Dorrie worked at the Overwaitea Grocery Store in North Kamloops as a cashier and main product purchaser. One day she was called into the office and was surprised to see Jim Pattison there. He took her out for lunch and wanted to know her secrets for ordering and marketing, as the store had become the most profitable store in B.C. since she held the position. He wanted to promote her to marketing trainer at the head office in Vancouver. She thanked him but stated the family was following Roy's Career. They remained good friends for years.
Dorrie loved to play any card game, Scrabble and Yahtzee and was very competitive. Bridge and Poker were her favourites and you were considered "LUCKY" if you won against her! She also loved to garden, bake, decorate cakes, knit, crochet and craft. She had an annual craft sale at their home and attended numerous craft sales where people loved her creations.
Many times in her life, she got the travelling bug and ventured across Canada, Alaska, the United States, Australia, the Caribbean, Norway, Denmark and Russia. These trips were shared together with her children, friends and later in life, partner Ab.
Once retired, the plan was for one more move for Dorrie and Roy to Vernon, B.C., but unfortunately, Roy passed away in 1997 and she made the move on her own in 1999. Most of the immediate family made the move over the years as well, spilling over the Okanagan and Similkameen Valleys. She then lived out the rest of her years in Vernon, B.C. close to where she grew up. This was also the time that Dorrie and Ab had many travelling adventures in Ab's Cessna and driving all over North America.
Dorrie was predeceased by parents, John & Orma Waage, husband of 43 years, Roy Vinthers, partner of 14 years Ab Moshansky, sisters, Ruth, Doris, Serina and Mary, brothers, Bernhard and Clarence. She leaves behind her daughters, Wendy and Tracy (Doug) and her son Roger, grandchildren, Kara (John), Adam (Kristin), Keith, Rachel (Dom), Erin (Bryan), Samuel and Cameron (Jessica), great-grandchildren, Jake, Dylan, Madison, Kalum, Kaleb, Kaila and Kaycee.
Dorrie always put her family first and was blessed with a life well lived. She will be forever loved, missed and cherished by family, extended family and friends.
There will be a small service for immediate family members only at this time. The family will notify loved ones in the future when a celebration of life is planned in the late spring.
