DOUGLAS ALLAN (DOUG) WEIR died suddenly at Vernon Jubilee Hospital, Vernon on Tuesday, October 15th, 2002 at the age of 60 years. Funeral service was held from St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Revelstoke on Saturday afternoon, October 19th with family and friends officiating. Pallbearers were: Darryl Willoughby, Geoff Battersby, Garry Monk, John Taporowski, Chris Pallot and Chris Pawlitsky. Cremation followed. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Revelstoke Community Foundation, P.O. Box 2398, Revelstoke, B.C. V0E 2S0, in memory of Doug.

Doug was born in Trail, B.C. on October 1, 1942 and was a resident of Revelstoke for 15 years. For the past year and a half he has lived on the Island of Vanuatu in the South Pacific. During his tenure in Revelstoke, Doug was the Economic Development Commissioner and was a much admired and well-respected citizen. He loved the surrounding mountains and living in this community. Doug was an outdoorsman who loved to fish, hike and ski. He was also an avid curler. Every year for 30 years (the same week of the year) he took a fishing trip to Bella Coola with “the boys”. Doug was dedicated to his family and was always keeping them in touch and together for family reunions. Doug was a kind, generous and loving father, grandfather, husband, son, brother and friend. He will be sorely missed.

Doug was predeceased by his father Howard. He is survived by his partner Joanne Defoe; three children: Wendy Weir of Edmonton, Shelley (Chris) Pallot of Prince George and Richard (Helen) Weir of Armstrong; two grandchildren: Brianna & Jessica; two stepchildren: Nik Fuess of Cranbrook and Katja Fuess of Alabama; his mother Barbara Weir of Kimberley; four brothers: Robert (Ann) Weir of Fort Saskatchewan, Darrel (Karen) Weir of Kimberley, Hugh (Heather) Weir of Port Coquitlam and Cam (Chris) Weir of Trail; as well as numerous nieces and nephews and a host of good friends.

Arrangements were in the care of Brandon Bowers Funeral Home, Revelstoke.
