In loving memory ~
It is with profound sadness that the Mori family announces the passing of Hugh on March 12, 2024, in Chilliwack B.C. Hugh leaves behind his wife Hiroko of 21 years, 3 children Tyler (Lauren) Mori, Aaron Mori, and Akemi (Dustin) Goodman and 6 grandchildren Austin, Maddex, Caleb, Sophia, Violet and Christian. Hugh also leaves behind siblings Richard (Judy) Mori, Jeanne (Bill) Boer and Terry (Janice) Mori and was predeceased by his parents Yoshitaka and Mariye Mori, sister Setsuko and brother Barrie.
Hugh was born in October 1947 in Vernon B.C. after the Mori family were relocated during the Japanese relocation in 1942 during W.W.2. Hugh did all his early education in Vernon and despite struggling in school and being unable to read by grade 7, he graduated from Vernon Senior High School with honours. Hugh went on to UBC and was accepted into their Honours Chemistry and Pharmacy program before transferring and graduating from UBC Dentistry in 1973. Returning to Vernon, Hugh opened his dental practice and married Colleen (nee Malone) in 1975.
Hugh was an involved father and community volunteer who spent countless hours involved in coaching, fishing, riding, boating and building numerous ice rinks in the backyard. He was active in numerous organizations as a Queen Scout, Vernon Minor Hockey, Vernon Rotary Club, Noric House and the Vernon and District Riding Club. As a volunteer, Hugh held numerous executive positions such as co-chairing the 1st Rotary Dream Auction and then presiding over the Vernon Winter Carnival Pee Wee Hockey tournament.
After practicing Dentistry for 39 years in Vernon, Hugh retired in 2012 and in 2022 he and Hiroko moved to Chilliwack B.C. After several years of poor and failing health, Hugh passed away in hospice.
The Mori family would like to thank the Cascades Hospice in Chilliwack for the care that Hugh received and to Hugh's many friends who have reached out with expressions of condolences.
