October 19, 1936 - May 21, 2021
Edna was well loved by her family and friends. She passed away peacefully at the North Okanagan Hospice Society in Vernon on May 21st at the age of 84. Edna was born to Evan and Dorothy Richards on October 19, 1936 in Birmingham, England. She met her husband Michael and they were married on August 4, 1956 in Parkstone, Poole, England.
The couple immigrated to Toronto, Canada in 1963 with their two young daughters Karen and Alison and Edna's faithful companion Sally, her black toy poodle. Daughter Zena was born two years later in 1965. The family moved to Edmonton in 1967 and in 1971 they settled in Vernon.
Edna's love of poodles led her into a long career of owning and operating a successful dog grooming business and breeding poodles. Mike and Edna, as they were affectionately known, also owned and operated TelaFrend Kennels on Highway 6 for more than 27 years.
Following her retirement Edna turned her culinary talents to volunteering for the catering department of All Saints Anglican Church, where she has been a faithful parishioner for 50 years.
Edna and Mike enjoyed annual cruises in the Caribbean Islands and following Mike's death she carried on and expanded her travel adventures all around the world, many of them with Wells Grey Tours. She was recognized for travelling to all seven continents including Antarctica and the North Pole.
Finding that perfect treasure at one of the many thrift shops in Vernon and Kelowna was one of Edna's favorite pastimes.
Edna is predeceased by her husband of 47 years, Michael. She is survived by her daughters Karen Laing (John) of Ladysmith, Alison Baker (Brian) of Mission and Zena Williams (Pat) of Kimberley. Grandchildren, Michael, Carly, Alisha and Alanna and many great grandchildren.
