Elfriede passed away peacefully on August 24, 2021, at the age of 89 years.
She was predeceased by her husband Mike, and is lovingly remembered by her 3 boys, Alan (Maureen), Jimmy (Laurie) and Rodney, 8 grandchildren, Meghan (Jordan), Brittany (Steven), Jillian (Curtis), Amanda (Jamie), Corey, Chris, Krista & Dana and 12 great grandchildren.
She also leaves lasting memories with those here and abroad that fondly knew her as Elfriede, Mrs Reiter, Frieda, Tante Elfriede and Oma.
Born in Wettin, Germany, as conflicts grew there she set voyage on her own to Canada at the age of 19, where she met her husband Michael. They first settled in Horsefly, BC. and together they started their family. Stories abound of adventures and the challenges of raising 3 boys, including the time Oma ran fully dressed into a lake to save one of them.
She was known and loved for taking care of those around her, particularly through food. If you were lucky enough to have been delivered rouladen, cabbage rolls, cheesecake, or more recently sushi, you will understand.
True to herself, Oma was stubborn until the end and wouldn't ask for help, nor did she ever want a fuss made over her. Respecting that, a small private family celebration will be held, where we will raise a toast, to include a special thanks to the many wonderful nurses and care workers at Polson Extended.
In lieu of flowers, and in honour of her generous spirit, please make or take a meal to a neighbour, friend or someone in need, with love from Oma.
