Feb 10, 1941 - Jan 3, 2018
We regret to announce that Emily Lorraine Wiens has fallen asleep in death at Vernon Hospice House on January 3, 2018 after valiantly trying to overcome the effects of a stroke last September.

Emily was born in Abbotsford, BC on February 10, 1941 to Albert and Lydia Benz. Her four older siblings:  Keith, Ronald, Douglas and June as well as seven younger siblings: Vernon, Sharon, Mae, Elaine, Joan, Faye and Daniel created a vibrant family where Emily was known as a protector and nurturer.  These qualities of determination and perseverance that she learned early on served her well through the obstacles that she successfully overcame in her life.

Emily was the very proud mother of five children. Her firstborn son, Kerry was stricken with spinal meningitis and died at 2 days old.  Next came Kelly (Tracy), followed by twins Kelvin (deceased) and Kevin within the year, then Vicky (David) and finally Kory (Tracy).

Emily and Jim Bahris moved to Vernon, BC with their young family in 1968.  Her children remember her for being a loving, yet firm, mom who worked hard to support them.  These qualities carried through to her career choice as a daycare professional.  The generations of children that passed through her home found a second mom and friend in Emily, and her guidance undoubtedly had an impact on their lives.  While funny stories are often shared of those times, it's Emily's compassion and tenderheartedness that will be etched in our memory.

Emily was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses as a young woman.  She took this dedication seriously and set an example of integrity for her children, grandchildren and greatgrandchildren.  She worked diligently to encourage others and to bring the Bible's message to others right up until her death.

Emily loved camping, traveling, sports and generally staying active. Her children recall fondly the many road trips together. She married Garry on January 22, 1994 and the two spent their summers also vacationing abroad creating many memories.  They very much enjoyed meeting new friends during their travels and the preaching work was always a part of their activities no matter where they were visiting.

Emily appreciated very much the love and support she received and her family would like to express their gratitude also. They look forward to the fulfillment of Bible prophecy when Emily will awaken and share in the beautiful earthly paradise which is just around the corner.

A Memorial Service will be held at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses at 1424 Mission Road, Vernon, BC on Saturday, January 13th at 2:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers those wishing to do so may make donations to JW.org or North Okanagan Hospice Society.
