February 3, 1935 - August 22, 2021
Peacefully, on the morning of Sunday, August 22, 2021, Evelyn slipped into our heavenly Father's loving arms, surrounded by her family, at the age of 86 years.
Born in Prince Albert, SK on February 3, 1935, she tragically lost her mother at the tender age of 6, which caused a major turning point in her young life. Because her father's job required him to be constantly travelling, Evelyn spent the next few years in a School for Girls until her father was remarried in 1943 to Muriel McBurney.
Following that, the family was brought back together, then residing in Brandon, MB. Here, during her teenage years, Evelyn met the love of her life, Robert Geyson. They were married on August 28, 1954, in Brandon, MB, and would have celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary in 6 days.
Evelyn devoted her life to the care of her husband and family. She was a wonderful homemaker whose cooking and baking skills were legendary. Her peach pies were truly unrivaled! She loved to sew and always kept an immaculately clean house.
She was a "lady" in the truest sense, who always took pride in her appearance, and never went anywhere without her lipstick. She was known for her warm smile and caring demeanor, and had a huge, loving heart. She was affectionate and welcoming to family, friends, and strangers alike.
She enjoyed playing tennis, and was very competitive in her later years. Earlier in life she was an avid Bridge player, and along with Bob, took up square dancing which brought many new friends and adventures.
She loved to read, and always had her nose in a book or newspaper, following current events. Always an enthusiastic shopper, she was the only woman we knew who could shop all day and not buy anything! A huge fan of the Toronto Blue Jays, she followed them religiously.
Survived by her loving and devoted husband Robert Geyson, son Richard Geyson (Sharon) of Winnipeg, MB, daughter Karen (Bruce) Perreault of Castlegar, BC, daughter Terri (Andrew) Kivari of Enderby, BC, and brother Leo (Pat) Rayner of Brantford, ON.
Also left to mourn are grandchildren Matthew (Lynnette), Amy (David), Kevin, Kristopher, Kaitlyn (Adam), along with great grandchildren Nadja, Theoryn, Mackenzie, and Madison, as well as sister-in-law Evelyn (Garth) Darrach of Winnipeg, MB.
Predeceased by mother Edna (Dunlop) Rayner (1941), father Leo Rayner (1970), stepmother Muriel (McBurney) Rayner (1991), and brother Floyd Rayner (Diane) (2015).
A special thank you to the Drs., Nurses, and staff of Vernon Jubilee Hospital, for the outstanding and compassionate care that was given to Evelyn during her stay there.
Cremation has taken place.
A Celebration of Life attended by family members and friends will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Vernon Jubilee Hospital Foundation, 2101 32nd Street, Vernon, BC, V1T 5L2, vjhfoundation.org
