We regret to announce the passing of Florence May Vecqueray on December 10, 2019 at Pleasant Valley Manor in Armstrong, BC. Florence "Flo" was born in Dipden, England on January 16, 1923. At the age of 12, Flo immigrated to Canada and spent the next 6 years at the Prince of Wales Fairbridge Farm School in Duncan, BC.
At the age of 18, Flo started working at the Nurses Jubilee Hospital in Victoria, BC. While in Victoria, Flo met a sailor on leave, Bill "Vic" Vecqueray. Flo and Vic were married on January 13, 1945. Daughter, Irene Elizabeth was born January 9, 1946 in North Vancouver. Upon Vic's discharge from the Navy, Vic and Flo moved to Vernon.
Son Kenneth Allan was born September 23, 1950 in Vernon. Flo was a Pythian sister for over 37 years. She loved to bowl in a mixed league and belonged to the Vernon Legion Ladies Auxiliary for many years. Flo and Vic were also devoted fans of their favourite Vernon ball team and never missed a game, rain or shine. One of Flo's favourite pastimes at home was knitting. Everyone in the family had sweaters, slippers, mittens and socks made with love.
Flo was predeceased by her loving husband Vic on October 17, 1999 and her son Allan (surviving partner, Betty Nadeau) on March 27, 2018. Flo is survived by her daughter Irene (Steve) Mazur of Enderby, BC. Her loving grandchildren: Joseph (Kirsten) Mazur, Laurie-Lynne (Paul) Fogh, Dean (Catherine) Mazur, Chad (Ella) Vecqueray, Angela Vecqueray and Kathy. She was also blessed with 17 great-grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren, plus sister-in-law Cathy Cowans , brother-in-law Phil Vecqueray and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank all the loving staff at the Pleasant Valley Manor for the care and attention given to Flo over the last seven and a half years.
