Our father, grandfather and great-grandfather lived a full and adventurous life. While in Korea, he took ill and was sent to a Commonwealth Military Hospital in Kure, Japan. There he met his future bride, Nurse Janet Loughlin McMorland. They were married in 1952. Dad resigned from the British Army and he and Mom moved to Canada, where he enlisted in the Canadian Army (Black Watch, Royal Highland Regiment). During this time he fathered four children, served with the UN Peace Keepers in India / Pakistan, Kashmir and the Middle East. He retired from the Army with the rank of Major in October 1977. In 1978, Dad, Mom and their youngest child, James, moved from Winnipeg to Lumby. There he was active in the community, serving as a School Board Trustee and Chairman. He was also very involved in the Lumby Royal Canadian Legion Branch #167, serving on the Executive and enjoying many lively games of shuffleboard and darts with his friends.
