Gertrude (Trudy) Ernestine Hoover, 89, passed away 2 November 2019 in Toronto, Ontario. Trudy Schoenroth was born in Hodgeville, Saskatchewan in 1930 on a small prairie farm. A child of the depression, Trudy was determined to be a registered nurse and graduated from the Grey Nuns program in Regina. While working in the Langenburg Hospital she happened to drive by the barbershop in Bredenbury where a young man was standing talking to his friends. Trudy had met the love of her life, Ludwig (Lou Hoover) Hocevar. Married in 1953 and then moving to Yorkton, Saskatoon, Regina and then to retirement in Vernon, BC. They were married for 63 years. After the death of Lou in 2017 she moved to Toronto to be closer to her daughters.
Their four children, Kent (Susan), Myron (Suzanne), Heather (Don) and April (John) were so blessed to have such a practical, loving Mother. After raising her family Trudy went back to nursing until she retired to Vernon and played golf with her husband and continued her love of gardening. With a mild dislike for all deer. And all quail. Her cooking and baking were phenomenal, matched only by her enthusiasm for thrift and not wasting a thing. The sparkle in her eye and positive can do attitude were so uplifting to her family and there was no doubt that it was truly a matriarchal family.
Her husband Lou and brother Flying Officer Paul Schoenroth, RCAF, preceded Trudy in death. She is survived by her brothers Kenn and Fred Schoenroth, her four children and spouses, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
