March 31, 1929 - November 20, 2021
Eva was born on March 31st, 1929 in Dresden, Germany and was a survivor of the Holocaust. It is with great sadness that we announce her sudden passing on November 20th, 2021 in the Vernon Jubilee Hospital at the age of 92 years.
Eva met her husband to be, George Prokopetz while he was studying medicine in Innsbruck, Austria. Together they immigrated to Canada in 1958, eventually settling in Vernon where for many years Dr. Prokopetz was a highly respected family physician.
Eva was involved in various community organizations including the Hunters Range Snowmobile Club for many years, 25 years volunteering with the Vernon Search and Rescue, Creative Chaos, a gold medal winner in the B.C. Summer Games, amongst many other accomplishments. Her family and friends remember her love of hosting an annual German Christmas dinner which she did faithfully for many years.
Real candles on the Christmas tree and goose on the table for dinner certainly made the festive occasion more memorable.
Eva is survived by her son George (Miriam) Alexander; her grandson, Nicholas; granddaughter, Sabina; and family members in Australia. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dr. George Prokopetz on January 15th, 2016.
Cremation preceded a Celebration of Eva's Life which will be held at the East Hill Community Church, 3605-12th Street, on Tuesday, December 7th, 2021 at 11 am with Pastor Daryl DeKlerk officiating.
Due to the COVID-19 restrictions currently in place it is important for those wishing to attend the Service to contact Bethel Funeral Chapel to pre-register by calling 250-542-1187.
