January 6, 1925 - January 1, 2020
Herb was born on January 6th, 1925 in Vernon, B.C. and passed away on January 1st, 2020 in the Gateby Care Centre just five days before his 95th birthday, where he had resided for the past five months.
Herb will be lovingly remembered by his wife Ollie, to whom he was married for 68 years; three children, Barbara (Dennis), Gerry (Stella) and Dennis (Kathryn); six grandchildren, Rhiannon (Germano), Stephanie (Nick), Chris, Mike, Brendon (Chantal) and Meghan; and a large extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents and all of his siblings.
Herb was born to Lydia and Jack Johnson, the sixth of eight children and lived in Vernon his entire life. He did however serve in the Navy during World War II from December 1st, 1943 to February 8th, 1946 on the ship HMCS Strathadam which was stationed in the North Sea and off Gibraltar. After the war ended Herb returned home, worked in the dry cleaning business for many years and then with School District #22 until he retired. Herb loved music and playing his violin. He played music with the Old Time Fiddlers, George and Friends and the Backyard Band, and made many close friends through his music and travelling with RV clubs. Herb was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather with a great sense of humour and love for life. He will be greatly missed by all who had the good fortune of knowing him.
Cremation preceded a Celebration Of Herb's Life which will be held at Bethel Funeral Chapel on Saturday, January 25th, 2020 at 2:00 P.M. with Pastor Dithmar Molzahn officiating. A Reception will follow in the Bethel Tea Room.
