Mrs. Irene Stickland passed away peacefully at the VIP Place in Armstrong on Thursday, October 24, 2002. Aged 99 years. Irene will be lovingly remembered by two sons Stanley (Gertrude) of Penticton and Glenn (Marie) of Enderby, daughter Muriel Murray of North Vancouver, eleven grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and extended family and friends. Predeceased by husband Edwin in 1969, son Norman in 1992, brother Billy and parents. Irene was born at Armstrong on June 28, 1903 to parents Clara and George Payne. She moved to Vancouver to attend the University of BC and then Normal School. Irene taught school at Grindrod for two years and during that time met and married Edwin Charles Stickland. They lived in Vancouver for ten years then moved to their Sumas Prairie farm for thirteen years before returning to the Enderby area where Irene resided until moving to VIP Place at Armstrong three years ago. A life member of the Enderby Museum and Springbend Club, Irene was a great supporter of community events. Active in St. George’s Anglican Church Women and the Enderby Hospital Auxiliary, she also enjoyed gardening, birds, family and all aspects of life. A Graveside Service will be held 2:00 p.m., Sunday, October 27, 2002, at Cliffside Cemetery, Enderby. Reverend Cory Rundell officiating. Following the service a tea will be held at St. George’s Anglican Church Hall. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Enderby Museum.
