October 14, 1934 - June 23, 2022
In loving memory ~
We sadly announce that Jack passed away peacefully on June 23rd, 2022 in the Vernon Jubilee Hospital at the age of 87, exactly one week after receiving his cancer diagnosis.
Jack will be lovingly remembered by his beautiful wife Betty, the wind beneath his wings for 67 years; his daughters, Sandra (Brad), Sheila (Ken) and Sharon (Clint) all of Vernon, B.C.; his adored grandchildren, Jodi (Brad) and Chauntel (Mike) of Vernon, B.C., Jeff of Sherwood Park, Alberta, Justin (Gina) of Nelson, B.C. and Monisha (Jamie) of Vernon, B.C.; his cherished great grans, Mason, Liam and Olivia all of Vernon, B.C. and numerous extended family members.
Jack was born on October 14th, 1934 in Osler, Saskatchewan to his parents, Henry and Elizabeth Peters. He had six sisters and three brothers. The family moved to Quesnel, B.C. where Jack worked at the Plywood Plant. He met Betty in 1955 and in December of that same year, they were married. Jack and Betty moved to Grande Prairie, Alberta where Jack managed a service station. Several years later he got a promotion to begin a career in the tire industry in Grimshaw, Alberta. By this time they had welcomed their three daughters into the family. After moving to Lethbridge, Alberta where he worked for Dunlop Tires, the family again moved, this time to Calgary, Alberta. In 1968 Jack and Betty decided to start their own business with Jack`s brother Alf in beautiful Vernon, B.C. With the slogan "You Really Matter To Us", Peters Tirecraft was born. From the roots in Vernon, there are now over 200 Tirecraft stores across Canada. Tirecraft sponsored many sports teams and was always known for the hand crafted moving floats in the Vernon Winter Carnival parades.
Jack was involved with Rapid Retreaders, Vernon Christian Boys Brigade, Vernon Chamber of Commerce and a superior fund raiser for the Vernon Women's Transition House, Upper Room Misson, Abbeyfield and a past Chairman of the Vernon Performing Arts Centre, just to name a few. In 1982 Jack was Vernon's Corporate Citizen of the Year. He joined Rotary in October, 1975. He became the Representative to form new clubs and held various positions such as Service Director, Club President and District Governor. A Service Above Self Award was presented to Jack which was the first presented in this District. Jack went to the Ukraine to start a Rotary Club and also went to India for Operation Eyesight. Both Jack and Betty worked the Blood Donor Clinics for 35 years. Jack received numerous Paul Harris Awards and recently the RIPVP Harold Henderson Award. He always shook a hand, still considered himself with pride to be a young man and strived to reach his life goals right until the end.
Through the years of all Jack's dedication and hard work for his business and community, his family always came first. Cabin family fun, golfing, walking, travelling, family get-togethers, handing out brochures and singing were some of the favorite things to do in his life. As a loving Husband, Dad and Papa he always had time to play a joke on you or tell you how proud he was of you. He indeed was a gentle soul.
Cremation preceded a Celebration Of Jack's Life which will be held at Grace Bible Church, 5661 Silver Star Road on Tuesday, July 5th, 2022 at 1:00 P.M. with Pastor Jerad Braun officiating.
