December 24, 1924 - October 7, 2021
It is with sadness we announce the passing of Jean McGibbon at the age of 96 in Vernon, BC. Jean passed away peacefully on October 7, 2021. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by her family and friends.
Jean was born and raised on her family's farm in Abbotsford, BC as one of eleven children. She lived much of her life in Vancouver, started a family and worked for the Hudson's Bay Company as a clothing buyer in the fashion industry. Jean always had a keen eye for the latest fashion trends! Being stylishly dressed and her makeup beautifully done was very important to her, even in her final days. Her son, Larry was born in 1945 and a short time later her daughter, Lynn. The great tragedy of Jean's life was the loss of her baby daughter Lynn to spinal meningitis.
Jean was pre-deceased by her daughter Lynn in 1947 and her husband Bill Attridge in 2015. She is lovingly remembered by her son Larry (Fyfe), granddaughters Kristen, Marnie (Keith), and Lindsay (David) as well as her six great grandchildren Mia, Kyle, Joshua, Willem, Gracie and Paige. She is also survived by her younger sister Dolores (Jack) Hagman, of California as well as many extended family members.
Jean was a devoted and proud mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was energetic and fun loving with a zest for life. She had a wide circle of family and friends in Vernon, Vancouver and California. Jean's happiest days were in the summer at the Vernon lakefront home she shared with Bill, tending her garden, hosting and visiting with treasured friends and family on the deck. She was a wonderful cook and often hosted themed dinner parties with a beautifully set table. She and Bill enjoyed travelling throughout Canada, Europe, Mexico and the USA and spent winters in Palm Springs or Hawaii with their friends.
Our family extends a warm thank you to the medical professionals and caregivers at Hearthstone Care Centre, Creekside Manor, Vernon Jubilee Hospital and to Dr. K. Theron and Dr. S. Wright for the excellent medical care provided to Jean over the years.
A private family celebration of Jean's life will be held at a date to be determined later.
