Joan Lois McIntyre

Joan Lois McIntyre passed away on July 17th, 2019. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 am on Friday, August 2nd, 2019 at Bethel Funeral Chapel.
Joan was born on January 31st, 1936 to Victor and Adeline Icove (nee Bornheim) in Cleveland, Ohio. For most of her career, she taught English and other subjects in the United States, at Columbia College in Vancouver, and Okanagan College in Vernon. She had a deep appreciation for the written word and edited several books, gave poetry readings and workshops, and wrote her own stories and poetry. Joan was also a classically trained singer, and sang with symphonies, music groups, and choirs. After moving to Vancouver in 1970, Joan became involved in alternative health and later founded the Canadian Holistic Healing Association. She also became an active member of the Kebzeh spiritual community and moved to Vernon in 1987. This brought much peace, growth and harmony to her life. Joan was strong-willed, feisty, and determined. She was also charming, outgoing, and made friends wherever she went.
Joan is survived by her daughter Brin MacIntyre (Dan) of Vancouver, B.C. and her grandson Joel Valdez (Andrea) of Houston, Texas, and by numerous friends in Vernon, and around the world.
We are certain that Joan is embracing this new chapter of her infinite life journey and finding ways to contribute to her new community. May she have peace of heart, and know that when she dwelt here, she was dearly loved, and touched a great many lives with her dauntless spirit.
Gratitude is expressed to the doctors and nurses at Vernon Jubilee Hospital who respected her medical wishes and provided attentive, supportive care.
