1942-2020 ~ It is with great sadness that the family of N. John Davis have to announce his death on Oct. 2, 2020 at North Okanagan Hospice Society.
John was born in Kamloops in July 1942. The family moved to Kelowna in 1954.
In 1960 he joined the Canadian Navy and served for 3 years out of Halifax, NS. On returning to BC he found work in Kitimat and worked there for 4 years before he accepted a job with BC Hydro and moved to Vancouver.
It was in Vancouver that he met his future wife Pat. They were married in 1971 and they spent the next 3 years moving around southern BC while he served his apprenticeship to become a lineman.
Once qualified he returned to the Okanagan, but this time to Vernon, where he was told by his wife that there would be no more moves; they had found the place where they wanted to spend the rest of their lives.
John worked as a lineman in Vernon for 22 years. He loved his job and was proud of his many accomplishments. He took early retirement in 1999 and he and his wife began travelling, first a 7 month trip across Canada and around the US, then to many countries in Europe; Australia, New Zealand and parts of Asia.
In 2017 he was told that he had prostate cancer and spent the next 3 years fighting this disease. In May of 2020 he chose to have no more treatments and to enjoy his final few months
John was pre-deceased by both his parents, Dorrie and Ray Davis, and his older brother Terry. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Pat, his nephew Sean (Michelle), his niece Catherine, sister-in-law Pat, great niece McKenna and great nephew Connor and by numerous cousins in Vancouver, Kelowna and Bath, England.
His funeral was at St. James Catholic Church on October 10. Because of COVID 19 restrictions it was by invitation only for family and close friends.
Condolences may be offered at www.MyAlternatives.ca. As an expression of sympathy, those who wish may send donations in John's memory to North Okanagan Hospice Society.
