Jul 7, 1921 - Mar 17, 2018
Sadly, we announce the passing of John M. "Jack" Turner on March 17, 2018, at The Hamlets in Vernon.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Joy; two sons, John of Prince Rupert, David (Danova) of Kelowna; and one granddaughter, Jessica.

Jack was born in Regina, Sask. to parents John and Mabel Turner.  As a young man he was active in many sports; hockey and speed skating in particular.

At 20 he enlisted in the RCAF (May 1942) earning his pilot's wings in 1943, and was assigned to 194 Squadron, based in Agartala and Bramrauli India. There, he accumulated over 600 hours of operational flying time, piloting support missions in India and Burma, until his discharge in May 1945.

Following his discharge, Jack enrolled in the University of Toronto earning a degree in Optometry. He established one of the first optometry practices in Vernon, in the early 1950's, where he met and married his wife, Joy, in 1954.

He was a charter member of the Vernon Kiwanis club, and until forced by the demands of a growing family to abandon it, an avid curler.

A service will be held at All Saints Anglican Church on Saturday, March 24, 2018, at 1:00 pm, with a reception to follow.
