June 16, 1936 - August 3, 2019
June Merilyn Mabel Dassiuk passed away peacefully on August 3, 2019. June was born in New Westminster on June 16, 1936. She was the youngest of eleven children born to Frederick and Jean Langton. She is predeceased by her siblings, Ranald, Lilian, Violet, Eileen, Gertrude, Jim, Hazel, Glen, and Gerald (Jerry) and is survived by her brother Fred. She was predeceased by her former husband, Dmytro Dassiuk who died in 1971.
A devoted mother to Lynda (John), June worked at Vancouver General Hospital for more than 30 years. Having grown up near Monte Lake, June had wanted to return to the Okanagan for many years. She retired to Vernon, BC in 1995 and loved the little house she purchased there. She enjoyed cross country skiing with her sister- in-law, Fran, every winter and was an active member of the Nordic Wrecks for many years. She delighted in her cats, volunteered with the Animal Care Society, and was a creative, energetic, and determined woman.
Sadly, onset of dementia affected her remaining years. Thank you to the Creekside Landing staff who cared for June before she moved to Carlton Gardens in Burnaby, BC to be near her daughter and where she lived for the final seven years of her life. Carlton Gardens staff is commended for providing excellent care to June these past many years.
