It is with heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of our Mom, Lena Horochuk, at the Pleasant Valley Manor in Armstrong, B.C. on February 19th, 2020.
Mom will be lovingly remembered by her three children, David, LeAnne (Ian) and Tanya (Jeff); seven grandchildren, Radley, Ryan (Allan), Jesse (Marjorie), Jayden, Brian, Stella and Max; one great-granddaughter, Mia; her sister, Helen and extended family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Peter Horochuk, in 2012.
Mom was born in Lawrynowicz, Poland on July 30th, 1933. After her younger sister was born, the family emigrated to Canada and settled on a farm in Arborg, Manitoba. Our parents met and married in Winnipeg, Manitoba, but after a honeymoon in the Okanagan, they decided to move to Vernon and start a family. Family always came first to Mom. She treasured her children and especially loved her role as Grandma. She was so very generous with her time caring for and helping her family and friends. Mom's hands were rarely still; if she wasn't busy in the kitchen, she was working outside in her flower or vegetable gardens or in the orchard. Her pantry was stocked with proof of that - everything made from scratch. She was a hostess at heart, loved to entertain and always made sure there was more than enough! We will forever treasure her beautiful needlepoint, embroidered and crocheted works of art.
To know Mom was to love her. She was an agreeable, patient lady. She had a gentle, loving and affectionate soul. Small in size, but immense in her loving effect on people. Though Mom's health was failing the last couple years, her kindness, sweetness, and smile never faded. She had been an active member of her church family, and the way she lived her life taught so many of us about faith, acceptance and unconditional love. Mom may be gone, but she will never be forgotten.
In respecting Mom's wishes, a private family service was held at the Pleasant Valley Cemetery on Friday, February 28th, 2020 at 11:00 am.
We wish to thank the caring staff at Pleasant Valley Manor and to Dr. Gavin Smart who cared for both Mom and Dad in such a kind and loving way.
