Lilly Burby (nee Rumen)

November 24, 2017

Jul 31, 1931 - Nov 24, 2017
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our dear sister Lilly. Lill was the third daughter of Sam and Katherine Rumen. The Rumen's had a farm in Jaffrey, BC. When Lilly was 10 years old the family moved to Fernie, BC. Lill's parents believed that education was an important asset and there were limited opportunities in Jaffrey.

After High School Graduation Lill used her secretarial education to work in a department store in Fernie. She then moved to Calgary where she worked for Burns and Company and where she met Bill Burby, the love of her life.

It was in Calgary where Lill developed her gardening skills and continued to do so when she and Bill moved first to Vernon, BC and then to Armstrong, BC.

Lilly and Bill enjoyed many winter trips to Arizona and California and made good friends on those visits.

Lill was an enthusiastic volunteer, an awesome baker and a meticulous craftsperson. Her personal focus was always on her friends.

When Bill began to develop health problems she devoted herself to his care.

Soon after Bill's death Lilly had a serious fall and decided to move to Anne's Country Care Home in Armstrong, where she was able to continue her love of gardening and receive Anne's outstanding care.

Lilly was predeceased by her husband Bill, her sister Lida and her parents.

She is survived and will be always missed by her sisters Nina Rumen, Olga Rumen and Vera Morgan.
