We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Lorna Fay Love, beloved wife of Ernie Love for 63 years; mother of Linda, Tom (Chris), Scott (Terri), and Jim (Janice); grandmother of Calvin, Mitchel, Brooklyn, Thomas, Brittany, Rachel, and Jameson. Our world is emptier now.
Lorna was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan to Violet and Lois Howard. She died from aggressive bone cancer at Hospice House in Vernon, BC. She and Ernie lived in Vernon for over 31 years.
Lorna grew up on a farm near Kenaston, SK, where she loved being outdoors and learned the value of hard work. Along with her loving parents, her older sister, Margaret, helped to protect and guide her. Her innate curiosity and openness to people marked a life of kindness, thoughtfulness, and led to travel throughout North America, Britain, Europe, and even to China.
Despite high marks, Lorna was unable to afford university. She worked as a Grade III lab technician for two years at the University of Saskatchewan, and also for SaskTel and SaskPower. Lorna was as adept at wielding a hammer and a paintbrush (on walls or canvases) as she was on the dance floor jiving. She and Ernie met at a dance, and were married on July 23, 1957 in Saskatoon.
Lorna was a lifetime member of the muzzle-loading club in Saskatoon, and was a great competitive offhand target shooter. She appreciated art and drama, was an avid reader and curler. She attended Vernon Recreation Centre's Fit and FUNctional classes for the last 14 years, where she also developed strong, supportive friendships. She was passionate about her cherished family. Time together warmed her heart and ours.
The family would like to thank the staff and volunteers at Vernon Jubilee Hospital and Hospice House for their wonderful care for Lorna. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Lorna's name to Hospice House, https://nohs.ca/hospice-house
A small, family graveside service was held at Pleasant Valley Cemetery. An online gathering to celebrate and share stories of Lorna will be hosted by her family; to register please email: jim@jameslove.com
