GREEN, Margaret Rowe
December 25, 1917 - October 14, 2012
The family of Margaret Green is sad to announce her passing on Sunday, October 14, 2012 at the Vernon Hospice House. Predeceased by her first husband Flt. Lt. Louis Dubuc in 1941, and her husband of 51 years Emory A (Scotty) Green, sister Patricia Hebb, daughters-in-law Gloria Green and Pearl Tubman, brothers-in-law Donald Hebb and Gerald Green. Survived by sons Scott Green (Betty) and Craig Green (Priscilla), sister Florence Ann “Zann” Carr (David), brother-in-law Murray Green (Elsie), sister-in-law Olive Green, granddaughter Janet Woloshyn (Mark), grandson Neal Green (Donna), great-grandchildren Kayla, Aly, Zakk, and twins Maddyson and Mackenzie, also numerous nieces and nephews in Western and Eastern Canada.
Mom was raised in Lacolle, Quebec by mother Florence Hewson and father Major CW Hewson where she and her sisters enjoyed a warm family life full of relatives and friends. When Margaret wasn’t swimming or diving off bridges, she was known to play tennis and golf (a sport she kept up most of her life). Mom went to Stanstead College to finish her schooling. One of her first jobs was with Colonial Airlines as an airline hostess on flights between Montreal and New York. It was quite an adventurous job in those days and as she would add “Well paying, too.” During WWII, Mom also worked in the control tower at Dorval Airport.
Mom met her husband “Scotty” (R.A.F.T.C.) during the war and after hostilities ended moved to Vernon, BC where they lived until 1960. Then, with sons Scott and Craig and Irish setter Kerry in tow, they moved to Richmond, BC. During this time, while raising her sons, Mom worked in retail and also as a dental assistant. In 1972, they moved to Penticton, BC where Mom spent many days golfing, gardening, and spending time at their cabin on Kalamalka Lake. In 1992, Marg and Scotty moved back to Vernon to a lovely retirement community, not far from their old house where they had lived after the war. Dad passed away when he was 77. Although deeply saddened by his death, Mom soldiered on for eighteen more years, still golfing and enjoying her 4 o’clock drink of whiskey. The last few years Mom lived at Creekside Landing Assisted Living where she had a beautiful view of the creek and hillside.
The family would like to thank the residents and staff of Creekside Landing for their loving and wonderful care of Margaret; and also the Vernon Hospice House, who made her last few days comfortable for all.
At our mother’s request there will be a small family service at a later date. In lieu of flowers, family and friends wishing to do so, may make donations in memory of Margaret to the North Okanagan (Vernon) Hospice Society. Cremation and arrangements entrusted to Pleasant Valley Funeral Home.
