May 16, 1925 - August 4, 2022
It is with great sadness, we announce the passing of Margaret "Joy" Turner on August 4, 2022, at The Hamlets in Vernon. She is predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Jack. She is survived by her two sons, John of Prince Rupert, David (Danova) of Kelowna; one granddaughter, Jessica and one grandson, James.
Joy was born in Vancouver, British Columbia to William and Lilian Bucknall. After losing her father at an early age Joy had a great group of friends with whom she enjoyed spending time. Not many people can say they have had a best friend for almost 90 years. Joy was lucky enough to say that of Diana.
Joy attended UBC graduating with degrees in in Arts (1947) and Social Work (1948). After graduation she worked as a Social Worker in Vancouver until she was recruited to work in the Vernon office of the Provincial Ministry of what would now be called Child and Family Services. She had many stories of travelling the unpaved roads of the North Okanagan and visiting remote prospectors and farmers as she enrolled them for benefits.
Joy met and married her husband John "Jack" Turner, in 1954. As a wife and later a loving mother Joy retired from her profession to care for her family. The family cabin at Aspen Shores on Okanagan Lake was her favourite place to be with them and her large group of wonderful friends.
The monthly dinners that the "gang" held were a highlight for Joy. Travel with the Dreapers also held wonderful memories for her. The family dogs and any other dog had a special place in her heart and always brought a smile to her face.
The family would like to thank the staff at The Hamlets at Vernon for the loving care and attention they gave to Joy during the past 4 years.
A service will be held at All Saint's Anglican Church on August 24, at 2:00 pm.
