Melvin John "Mel" Stratton

December 8, 1940 - August 29, 2019
"Mel," as many knew him, passed away on August 29, 2019 in Vernon, BC, after a courageous fight with prostate cancer. Mel enjoyed many hobbies including hunting, fishing, and being a Ham Radio operator. Mel's working life saw him as a Line Driver for CP Transport and then a School Bus Driver for SD#83.
He is survived by his wife Carol, daughter Diana (Brook) McCarthy, brother Fred, many cousins and friends, and is predeceased by his father Wilfred Stratton, mother Joyce Vilac (nee Fallow), stepfather Phillip Vilac, half-brother Paul Vilac and son David Stratton. Melvin valued family and friends above all else, and many times there was no separation between the two. He was always pleased to meet his bus kids "all grown up" and wondered at the amazing adults they had become!
An "Open House" Celebration of Life will be held from 2 - 6 pm on Saturday, September 14, at 2909 Chase-Falkland Road, Falkland, BC. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages you to make a donation to a charity of your choice. (As a final note to all men, please get your prostate checked regularly.)
