Michael Joseph Moore, 56, passed away peacefully at Vernon Hospice House on April 17th, 2019, following a long, courageous battle with cancer.

Mike is survived by his loving wife Tara to whom he shared 33 years of marriage, and their two beautiful children Evan (Lenai), and Jenessa. He leaves behind his beloved brothers Paddy (Dawn) and Kevin (Maureen) and precious sisters Pamela Powell (Rick) and Kate Carson (Neil); along with an abundance of nieces and nephews so dear to his heart. He is further survived by his mother-in-law Donna, sister-in-law Carla (Les), as well as a hundredfold of friends. He is predeceased by his parents Tom and Pearl and his father-in-law Albert.

Born and raised in Vernon, Mike spent over 25 years as an employee of School District #22, fulfilling a number of roles, most recently as a school bus driver where he took immense pride in providing safe transportation for hundreds of students.

Mike could often be found hiking and biking the local trails, or spending time on the lake while entertaining friends and family at the Kalamalka Country Club. Mike's other passionate pursuits included chasing fresh powder at Silver Star Mountain, and cheering on his beloved Manchester United and Vancouver Whitecaps soccer teams. As an avid sports enthusiast, he was well known for his community involvement in a variety of athletic organizations including the North Okanagan Youth Soccer Association and Vernon Ski Club where he dedicated thousands of hours as a youth coach.

Mike was a lifetime member of St. James Catholic Church, and he was a proud third-degree member of the Knights of Columbus. Mike always had a larger than life personality, with a never-ending work ethic, and a truly compassionate heart. His quick wit, and endearing sense of humor will long be remembered by all those who were lucky enough to have known him.

The family wish to expresses their upmost gratitude to the staff and students of St. James School and the St. James Church community for their endless prayers and support. A heart-felt thank you to the team of doctors and the staff at VJH, the nurses at the Vernon Cancer Clinic, the Community Care team, and the North Okanagan Hospice staff and volunteers for their wonderful care and compassion over the past seven years.

Vigil Prayers will be held at St. James Church on Friday April 26th at 7pm. A Memorial Mass will be held at St. James Church on Saturday April 27th at 11 am, with a reception to follow at the Parish Center at St. James School. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the North Okanagan Hospice Society.
