It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Mildred Barker at the Vernon Jubilee Hospital on March 4th, with family by her side, at the age of 82. Millie was born July 10th, 1941, in Stony Plain to her predeceased parents Berna Albrecht and Lawrence Albrecht.
She spoke fondly of growing up with her three sisters and driving around town in her red convertible.
She is predeceased by her first husband David Dafoe and her second husband Robert (Bob) Barker.
She is survived by her son Dale Dafoe and his wife Leslie, her daughter Shauna Dafoe, her four grandchildren Paige Dafoe, and Bailee, David, and Brooklyn Drinnan and Bob's daughters Shannon Weir, Colleen Pyle, Karen Torrens and their children, Tyson, Mya and Jace Weir, Bryce and Kyla Pyle, and Jordyn Torrens.
She is also survived by her sisters Sharon Springsteel, Sandy Berg, and Debbie Odland, and many nieces and nephews including frequent visitor Duane Springsteel.
She will be missed by a large group of friends, many of whom she has known since childhood.
Millie loved life. She loved travelling with her husband Bob, visiting with friends and spending time with her grandchildren. In the summer you could find her and Bob hosting friends and family on their back deck or taking their grandchildren to Sugar Lake.
She was an active member of the community and worked for many years at the Vernon Vantage One Credit Union and after retiring was an active member of the board. In her retirement, she loved her volunteer work and spending time with the Crown Jewel Ladies.
In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the Vernon Jubilee Hospital Foundation in Millie's name.
A celebration of life will be held on October 6th, 2024. A venue will be provided at a later date.
