Monica was born on July 18th, 1956 in North Bay, Ontario, and in the spring of 1974, she traveled west to Vancouver to be with her sister and to begin her career as a Hairdresser.
She moved to Vernon in 1990 where she continued to work as a Hairdresser and became active in her community. She was a member of the Vernon Curling Club and loved spending time with her curling buddies.
Monica was a gifted Artesian with a keen eye and loved crafting and wood working. Her passions were fly fishing, camping and spending time with her family and her dear granddaughters, Adrianna Murphy and Berkley Holmes.
Monica leaves behind her loving husband, Mark Holmes; one daughter, Corrina Murphy; two sons, Jordan Holmes and Mason Holmes (Miriam); two brothers, Patrick Murphy (Sherry) and Michael Murphy (Joanne); three sisters, Betty Murphy (Bill), Margaret Bell (Bob) and Carol Russett (Monte); numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Bernadette Murphy; and one sister, Paulette Poisson (wife of Peter).
In respecting Monica’s wishes, she was cremated and her desire was that her family and friends celebrate her life the way she lived, surrounded with much love and laughter.
Monica’s family would like to thank Dr. Humphreys, Dr. Mike Murphy and the staff at the Vernon Jubilee Cancer Centre for the wonderful care given to Monica over the past few months.
