December 23, 1949 - June 26, 2019
It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Penny Coon on June 26, 2019 in Vernon, BC. She went to bed the night before and left us quietly in her sleep.
Penny was born in Carnduff, Saskatchewan, December 23, 1949 to parents Ada Jean and Ken Coon (both deceased). She is survived by her husband Gary Pleym, son Curtis Coon (Karen) of Edmonton, 2 grandchildren Graham and Alexander Coon of Edmonton. She is also survived by her brothers Wayne (Bev) Coon of Red Deer, AB, Ken Coon of Fort Macleod, AB, Paul Coon (Lois) of Beaumont, AB, sisters Sandra Archer fo Stockholm, SK and Sonya Jaeger (Wilf) of Airdrie, AB, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews, and great grand nieces and nephews - not mention all the cousins across Canada.
Penny worked 17 years at Chevron in Calgary, before making the move to Vernon in 1996, leaving behind a great many friends she had made during her career there.
She also worked at Vernon Jubilee Hospital in the dietary department where she wore her own homemade extremely colourful uniforms with goofy hats, which inevitably would put a smile on the patients faces. One of her favourite pastimes in her earlier years was curling with her lady friends. She was an avid seamstress and her latest passion was quilting, and of course they were beautiful. Penny also loved to golf with her "Old Heifers" and enjoy dinner and a get together after.
Because of her big heart she would sometimes buy large tins of coffee, roasts and other groceries and deliver them to the Upper Room Mission, where the less fortunate people could get a decent meal. She and Gary also cooked turkeys, huge pots of potatoes and all the fixings for Christmas dinner and went down to Polson Park to feed anyone who was there. Penny worked hard in her yard tending her vegetable and flower gardens - they were breathtaking. Her wit, laughter and generosity will be forever missed.
There will be a Celebration of Life on September 21, 2019 from 1 pm to 5 pm at the Army and Navy in Vernon, BC.
In lieu of flowers donations to the Heart and Stroke Fund would be greatly appreciated.
