Peter Lockhart

In loving memory ~
Peter passed away unexpectedly at the age of 78 while camping with his family in Alberta.
He was born in Vancouver, BC and, as a small child, moved with his mother when she returned to Vernon. After graduating from high school, he returned to Vancouver where he met the love of his life LaVonne (nee Wunder) and they were married in 1969. Daughter Shay was born in 1975 with son Brett to follow in 1977.
In 1976, Peter and his family returned to Vernon where he began working as a realtor with Downtown Realty. He continued to work as a commercial realtor right up to his death and was recently honoured by the Interior Association of Realtors with an award recognizing his 50 years of service in the real estate industry.
Peter was a founding member and former president of the Kalamalka Rotary Club. He was noted for having perfect attendance and, after stepping away from active service, he was honoured with a lifetime membership in the club. Peter sat on the Vernon Board of Variance, was a past president of OMREB, sat on the board of the DVA and was involved in numerous other aspects of the community.
Dad was a keen skier and hit the slopes at Silver Star on its very first day of operation in 1958 and had enjoyed the mountain every year since. LaVonne often joked that they were nomads at heart as they took every opportunity they could to travel. Favourite trips included Maui, Scotland, and Italy. Camping was probably Poppa's favourite past time. He loved nothing better than getting in his truck and towing the fifth wheel to a new destination. He was at his happiest when sitting around the camp fire with his family.
He was predeceased by his mother Eva and furry friend Molly.
Besides his beloved wife of 54 years, LaVonne, he is survived by his son John (Michelle), daughter Shay (Scott), son Brett (Joanne), grandchildren Connor (Sammi), Kyle, Finlay, Benjamin, and Amelia; and canine companion Olaifr.
Peter's celebration of life will be held at his home in Coldstream on August 13, 2022 and will be a drop-in between 1-3pm. We encourage all of those whose lives were touched by Peter to come and share memories with his friends and family.
