October 28, 1925 - December 18, 2019
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Robert Gaston Demers, a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, shortly after the celebration of his 94th birthday. Robert was born on October 28th, 1925 at Frontenac Quebec and passed away peacefully at his residence in The Hamlets at Vernon BC, on December 18th, 2019. He will be missed by his loving wife of 65 years, Aurea and three daughters, Janine Patrick (Lester) and two granddaughters, Mellissa Ziola, Kristy Nixon (Braden) and three great grandchildren. Lynn Demers, grandchildren Jason Dyck (Lisa), Steven Dyck (predeceased grandpa), Alli Hames and six great grandchildren, Patsy Granberg (Lee) grandchildren Dawna, Jason (predeceased grandpa), Clayton, Lorne and Taylor Granberg and two great grandchildren. Robert and Aurea were married on June 5th,1954 at Lumby, BC. Together they enjoyed raising their three girls in this wonderful little community surrounded by family and lifelong friends. Some of Robert's favorite pastimes, when his girls were young, were car rides, Chinese food, drive in movies, family picnics and swimming at Kalamalka and Mabel lake He took great pride in keeping an immaculate yard and a shiny car. Many fond memories were created for his daughters in these formative years. Their dad was pretty much their hero. Robert had a strong work ethic that was appreciated by his employers. He was a hand faller for many years, all accident free. When it came time for a change, he could be seen peeling poles by hand at a pole yard in downtown Lumby. During this time, they travelled extensively to many tropical places. His final career prior to retirement at age 67, was with Gorman Brothers. running a pole peeling machine. After retirement, Robert and Aurea spent time relaxing at the cabin on Arrow Lake. Robert loved golfing and going out for breakfast or an evening coffee and a slice of pie whenever the opportunity presented itself. Dad's humility, kindness and patience, as well as his loving and determined character will be cherished forever in our hearts. We wish to convey our gratitude to the staff at The Hamlets and Dr Barnard for their loving and compassionate care and attention these past two years.
