On February 10, 2020 Roma Arlene Hiebert died peacefully with her devoted husband, Randy at her side. She is survived by her husband Randy, their three children, Christina & Tim Ginn, Cody & Caitlyn (Harbottle) Hiebert, Melanie & Tim Feeny and grandchildren Emma and Owen Ginn, and Piper and Crew Feeny.
She is predeceased by her parents Robert and Helen Roder, and her brother Ronnie.
Roma was born on the first of May, 1956 to Robert and Helen Roder. She loved the mountain town of Nakusp where she was born and raised, and made long-lasting friendships there. It was always her desire to make Nakusp her home again. Plans were made to do just that but sadly her failing health would not allow for her carry these plans out.
In 1972, at the age of sixteen, Roma symbolised the dedication of her life to her God, Jehovah by water baptism. Unbeknownst to her at the time, her future husband, at the same convention had also made his declaration to dedicate his life to Jehovah.
Her love for God was always her primary focus, and everything she did in her life was done with a view to pleasing Him, first and foremost.
At a wedding reception in Enderby, she and her husband Randy met for the first time.
Later, they met again at a circuit assembly in Vernon. About a year after, their love for each other prompted them to take the step of marriage on Dec. 8, 1973.
Roma was a loving and devoted wife and mother, giving birth to their first child, Christina in 1976, followed by their son, Cody in 1979, and finally Melanie in 1982. She loved spending time with the children taking them camping and on family vacations to Hawaii.
Roma's love for her family ran deep, and it was her greatest wish that all her children would grow up to love and serve Jehovah. Everything she did was with the goal of making that happen.
Another thing about Roma that was appreciated in varying degrees by all in the Hiebert family was her love for taking and looking through photos. With the skill of a devoted archivist, she carefully curated the history of the Hiebert clan. Known by some as the family paparazzi.In the congregation, Roma whole-heartedly gave all she could. Book study group (as they were then known) meals, taking an active roll in helping to prepare meals for the pioneer schools, elder schools, Kingdom Hall work bees and many other events.
Being an outgoing, social person, Roma took much delight in attending and commenting at Christian meetings and the ministry. When she wasn't able to attend meetings in person, she made her expressions by way of written comments to the conductor. Meetings were so important to her that when the phone connection would drop out, Randy would come home to find her in tears because she wasn't able to hear the meeting. Thankfully, once KHCONF was put in place, this was no longer a problem. Though she missed being with her brothers and sisters very much, being tied in to hear their comments was a real comfort to her.
Even when she struggled to get one word out at a time, the ministry was still a primary focus for Roma, taking time to witness to the many health professionals she had regular contact with.
Hope of the resurrection, faith in the ransom and her fierce love for Jehovah kept Roma's spirit high
and her outlook positive, even during the most trying times she had to face. It would be her greatest wish that she be reunited with all her loved ones in the promised new system of things where sickness and death will be nothing but a distant memory.
