Romeo passed away peacefully on August 11th, 2020 surrounded by his family at the Vernon Jubilee Hospital.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 73 years, Solange (Sally); his siblings Henriette, Emilien, Anna and his sister-in-law Simone Tait; his four children Norbert (Solange), Don (Pat), Evelyne (Ron) and David (Meryl); his five grandchildren Stephane (JoAnn), Dale (Jenny), Patrick (Rejean), Leslie (Jeremy) and Darlene (Jason); his five great-grandchildren Alexis, Kalin, Makenna, Hadley and Boyd along with numerous extended family members and friends.
Romeo was born on January 15th, 1926 in Notre Dame de Lourdes, Manitoba - the 7th of 9 children born to Emile and Marie. He served in the Royal Canadian Navy as a cook from 1943 - 1946 before completing his teaching certificate and marrying the love of his life, Sally.
After leaving the Navy, he taught in schools for 36 years - spending several years in Manitoba before moving to Vernon in 1952 where he taught at OK Indian Day School, Beairsto Elementary and W.L. Seaton Secondary.
Romeo and Sally made the most of their retirement years by travelling around Canada in their RV, taking trips to Europe and volunteering in Vernon.
Romeo was active in the Knights of Columbus where he served in many capacities including as Grand Knight; the Royal Canadian Legion (Branch #25) where he served as President; and regularly volunteered with the Schubert Centre.
In respecting Romeo's wishes, he was cremated and a Memorial Mass was held at St. James Catholic Church with close family and friends. As an expression of sympathy, those who wish to do so may send donations in memory of Romeo to the Vernon Jubilee Hospital Foundation or to the Schubert Centre.
