Rose Anne Shawchuk (Wasylow), passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 21st at Vernon Jubilee Hospital at the age of 93 years.

Rose will be lovingly remembered by her family and many friends. She is survived by her sons: Terry (Betty) of Calgary, Edward (Sandra) of Maple Ridge, grandchildren: Michael (Clair), Penny, Carrie, Kelly (Nicole), Adam and Matthew along with great grandchildren: Michaela, Kristen, Jersey and Olivia.

She will also be lovingly remembered by her extended family the Shawchuk’s and the Wasylow’s. Rose was predeceased by her husband of 68 years John and her daughter Patricia.

Rose was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan on December 7, 1923. She met the love of her life and soul mate, John Shawchuk and they were married at St. George’s Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral in Saskatoon on October 13, 1941. Rose and John were active participants in both the Ukrainian Catholic Church and the local community for their entire lives. Rose and John moved from Saskatoon to Vernon BC in 1971. Upon settling in Vernon they opened Economy Fabric Fair and Bernina Sewing Centre. This was followed by the popular Ukrainian Gift Shop located in downtown Vernon.

Rose was an excellent seamstress who spent many hours sewing and quilting for both family and friends. Rose was also an active member of the UCWL at St. Josaphat’s Ukrainian Catholic Church in Vernon.

She cherished spending time with her family and many bingo partners. Rose enjoyed playing bingo, watching curling and going to the casino.

Prayers will be at 7 PM Wednesday, December 28, 2016 at St. Josaphat’s Ukrainian Catholic Church followed by a Funeral Mass on Thursday, December 29, 2016 at 10:00 AM also at St. Josaphat’s Ukrainian Catholic Church with The Most Reverend Bishop Ken Nowakowski Celebrant. Interment will follow in the St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery. A reception will be held celebrating Rose’s life in the Church Hall following interment.
