January 30, 1937 - November 10, 2021
Roy was born and raised in Medicine Hat. After leaving Medicine Hat he became quite the entrepreneur and developed great professional and personal relationships with the people he worked with. Respect was always apparent. Roy was a people person and it showed. He was a man that was passionate about everything he did. Many bonfire memories over the years were enhanced by the sound of Roy singing and playing his guitar.
In 1990 Roy married the Love of his life, Marion. Roy and Marion enjoyed 14 years as Snowbirds with their friends in Yuma where he was very involved in an array of activities, playing golf, talent shows, playing guitar and singing in the church to name a few. They were in love till her passing in 2014.
After retiring Roy enthusiastically pursued golf. He had a fantastic group of friends and fellow golfers at Hillview Golf Course in Vernon. He was the president of the strata association in the apartment complex he lived in for over 20 years and had developed some very special relationships as a result. Roy enjoyed life.
Roy had faced many health challenges over the past several years but always rose to the challenge. He was a proud man and faced all the challenges in his life with grace and dignity.
On November 10, 2021, Roy was called to reunite with his wife, Marion, his daughter Denise and his son in law Rob Anton. He passed peacefully surrounded by family. Roy is survived by his twin sister Olive (Lance) Brost and his brother Ralph (Matilda) Schlinker.
With his marriage to Marion, Roy also is survived by his extended family. Step-son John (Ingrid) Parsons, three step-daughters Jan (Mike) Quesnel, Carol (Rick) Clemens and Gail Atha. Roy also had seven grandchildren one great grandchild, and numerous nieces and nephews. Roy will be dearly missed.
By sharing memories, we will continue to celebrate his life. We would like to extend a special thank you to all of the team members at the Vernon Jubilee Hospital that treated him with such compassion and respect in his final days. We are grateful for all who assisted him.
The COVID restrictions have placed unique challenges in celebrating Roy's life. Regrettably attendance at the service will be limited to invitation only. Roy would have wished to have everyone come together and share a story but with restrictions in order to include those that we would love to invite but are unable to, we invite you to join us in a live streaming starting at 2 pm, Saturday, November 20th, 2021 at https://www.facebook.com/myalternativesvernon.
You are also invited to leave a personal message or share a memory www.MyAlternatives.ca
Optimistically hoping the COVID restrictions will be relaxed the family has intentions of having a celebration of life that can be attended by all in the Spring. Date and location to be determined. Anyone wishing to do so is invited to make a donation to the BC Cancer Foundation in Roy's memory, in lieu of flowers.
