Born in January 1929, Ruby left us peacefully on January 22, 2017.

Ruby will be missed and is survived by son and daughter-in-law Larry and Bobbi, grandson Nathan and family, as well as step-children Susan, Dean, Kevin and Curt and their families. She also held a special place in her heart for Myrna and Walt, as well as Werner, Claudia, Alex and Werner Jr.

Ruby made many dear friends which she treasured — far too many to name individually — through both her work and volunteer efforts in hospitality, restaurant, care-taking and catering.

Her volunteer contributions and dedication to the Ladies Auxiliaries of both The Army Navy and Air Force Unit #5 and The Fraternal Order of Eagles #3557 in Vernon were among the favourite times of her life.

Ruby loved the Okanagan and was often found feeding ridiculous numbers of guests at sites ranging from Vernon’s Perogy House, Armstrong or Enderby restaurants and motels, as well as catering events for the ANAF or FOE. She took pride in being a Charter Member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Eagles and one of her proudest moments was representing Silver Cross Mothers at a Vernon Remembrance Day service.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to Vernon Jubilee Hospital and the Community Care Team; we deeply appreciated the work of the caring staff operating 2W and 2E during this difficult time. We also extend our most sincere thanks to the team of doctors who have cared for and about Ruby over the years: Dr. Phillipe Lepage and in recent weeks, Dr. Ferrugia and Dr. Brown.

Our appreciation also rests with The Vernon Restholm.

At Ruby’s request, there will be no service. We ask any who may wish to remember her to please consider making donation(s)s to: ANAF Unit #5 Ladies Auxiliary, or FOE #3557 Ladies Auxiliary (both of which distribute funds to very worthy local charities!) or to the non-profit Vernon Restholm, in Ruby’s name.

PS. It gives the Ladies Auxiliary of the Spitfire #5 ANAF of Vernon great satisfaction to be able to sponsor this write up in lieu of a Memorial Tea. We hope this gives closure to all the family. Ruby was 88 and a Great Lady that worked very hard for us as a volunteer for many years.

She was a great wife, mother, stepmother, grandma, great grandma and friend to many. May she “Rest in Peace”.
