It is with heavy hearts that the family of Trudy Schappert wish to announce her peaceful passing at Pleasant
Valley Manor. She entrusted her spirit to her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ on July 22, 2021 at the age of 91
years. Trudy will be greatly missed and is survived by her son Jay (Sharon), daughter Melodee (Rob), grandson
Tyler and granddaughter Hannah. She is further survived by her brother Robert Schmidt of Russell, Manitoba
as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Trudy was predeceased by her parents Jacob and Louise Schmidt,
husband Melvin (2007) and her youngest brother Norman (2021).
Trudy was born on a rented farm on a cold Saskatchewan winter's day. She enjoyed farm life but knew she didn't
want to be a farmer's wife. Trudy married Melvin in Marchwell, Saskatchewan in September of 1949 and they
moved to Winnipeg where she worked at Picardy's Bakery at the lunch counter for many years. In 1957 they
moved to Southern California and started a family. Mom worked evenings at Woolworths and later at TG&Y
where she enjoyed interacting with the public. In 1971 mom & dad moved their family to Vernon where mom
started selling Avon and later she was known as the candy lady at Woolworth's. Mom was a former member of
Peace Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School and was also a Sunday School Superintendent. Mom
was also very involved with the Women's Aglow Fellowship. She was a wonderful hostess and loved to
entertain family and friends.
There was a private family graveside celebration of life service held at the Pleasant Valley Cemetery with Pastor
Henry Friesen officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Trudy's memory to Grace Bible Church, 5661 Silver Star Road,
Vernon, BC V1B 3P5. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Bethel Funeral Chapel Ltd., 5605 - 27th
Street, Vernon, BC V1T 8Z5 (250-542-1187).
