July 2, 1949 - November 28, 2023

In loving memory ~

With heavy hearts and profound sadness, we announce the sudden passing of Violet "Vi" Victoria Brett. Vi passed away on November 28th in the Kelowna General Hospital. She was a beacon of love, warmth, and generosity, and her absence will be deeply felt by her family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

Vi was born in Vernon on July 2nd, 1949, to Tom and Nancy Mackiewich. She grew up in Vernon, and after graduating from Fulton Secondary, she moved to Edmonton, Alberta, where she met the love of her life, Robert "Bob" Brett. They married in 1970, and in 1974, they moved back to Vi's hometown of Vernon and spent the rest of their lives together there.

Having grown up in Vernon and establishing roots here, the decision to move back was easy. Shortly after arriving in 1974, Vi's first child, Robin, was born, and then in 1977, she had Kelly.

Vi always found fulfillment and joy in all areas of her life. Along with being a devoted wife and a loving, selfless mother, sister, and friend, she also found fulfillment professionally. Vi spent most of her professional career as a program administrator for Okanagan College. After her retirement and the passing of her husband, Vi never slowed down. She kept busy spending time with family, travelling with friends, and volunteering with the North Okanagan Valley Gleaners Society and Vernon and District Performing Arts Centre.

She devoted her life to her family's success and well-being. Her love for her family, especially her grandchildren, knew no limits.

Vi was predeceased by her beloved husband, Bob, and her brothers, Mike and Paul Mackiewich. She was also predeceased by her sisters-in-law, Paulette and Laura Mackiewich, her brother-in-law, Barry Brett, and her parents, Nancy and Tom Mackiewich.

She leaves behind her son, Rob Brett, her daughter, Kelly Bentham, brother Peter Mackiewich, and sisters-in-law Marla Mackiewich, Darlene Brett, and Bev Alinson. She also leaves behind her son-in-law, Paul Bentham, and daughter-in-law Brandice Mohr. Vi's legacy continues in the lives of her cherished grandchildren, Liviah Brett, Rowan Brett, Cohen Bentham, and Vonn Bentham.

Vi's legacy is of love, emphasis on family ties, and endearing friendships. She was a beautiful soul who touched the lives of everyone she knew. She will be profoundly missed, and her memory is etched forever in those who loved her.

A Celebration of Vi's Life will be held in the spring of 2024. Service details will be published in a future edition of the Vernon Morning Star newspaper.
