Warm weather has opened Vernon’s BMX track earlier than usual.

Ranger Park opened to the public and club riders Friday, March 15.

“This is the first time in years we’ve been able to be open for spring break,” said club president Shylo Orchard. “Usually we’re still shoveling snow.”

While the club season doesn’t start until April 8, the track is ready to ride for anyone eager to get some laps in.

The dirt has been rolled and raked and “it’s in the most amazing shape right now,” according to Orchard.

The starting gate has also been freshened up with a new wrap from Speedpro Signs.

The gates will remain open unless it rains.

“When it gets slick and slippery it gets dangerous,” said Orchard, adding volunteers check the track on a regular basis to monitor conditions.
