Celtics turn back Blazers

The North Enderby Timber Celtics rallied to bounce the AF Blazers 3-2 in North Okanagan Women’s Soccer Association Division 1 play

The North Enderby Timber Celtics rallied to bounce the AF Blazers 3-2 in North Okanagan Women’s Soccer Association Division 1 play Tuesday night at Marshall Field #3.

The Celtics allowed two goals on scrambles in the first half, giving keeper Erin Traxel no chance. Traxel made multiple saves keeping the Timber in striking distance.

Samantha Adam made it 2-1 in the 60th minute after beating a defender and curling a 25-yarder over the Blazer keeper. The Celtics maintained pressure and equalized when Jodi Benz’ corner was flicked by Tori Reid to Emily Keeley, who finished with style.

Keeley supplied the winner in the 86th minute by tapping in a rebound off a powerful Carly Smith shot that the keeper couldn’t control.

Lindsay Bolduc was a star in the Celtic midfield and Casey Benz anchored the backline. The simplyFrugal.ca Lady of the match was Katelyn Paulin, who was a standout defensively in the first half and earned the second half clean sheet in goal.

The Ball Blasters grounded the Centowear Kicksters 3-0 in other Division 1 play.

Sportsmanship award for the Kicksters went to Kitty Boda, who volunteered to play keeper first half.

The Vernon Chick Kickers shut down the Gray Monk/Longhorn Impact 3-0 in Masters play at MacDonald Park.

After three golden opportunities went wide, Mel Jacobs finished a gorgeous corner from Dawn Ansdell for the opening snipe. Ansdell again figured in the second goal, this time putting striker Jenny Garnett in alone for a fabulous finish on keeper Dana Hornibrook

Central midfielder Jen Kemper, playing a marvellous two-way game all night, buried the Impact for good with a rocket from yardage after receiving a fabulous feed from tireless Holly Flinkman.

Fullbacks Kelli Mazurak, game MVP Marilyn VanderDeen, and Heidi Holtman kept the Impact forwards from mounting any real pressure on keeper Robyn Sherwood, who recorded an all -world one-finger tip save off the cross bar. The Kickers are 6-1.

Fahn Bacon and Shelinda Morin worked tirelessly in the middle for the 3-3-1 Impact.

The Shuswap Merlot brushed off the  Controllers 4-1 at MacDonald Park.

Shelley Henry scored for the Controllers (2-5) near the 39th minute on a cross from the corner by Mandy Frederick that was originally played by Tara Murray.

Defenders Jodi Peshko and Brandie Hunter had loads of action shutting down the speedy Merlot forwards.

Midfielder Jacquie Nuyens and forward Martina Allen enjoyed numerous chances with no finish. Shawn Yargeau and Michele Wernicke were bold in centre midfield.

Player of the Match went to left fullback Maritza McLeod, who took a nasty  elbow to the face in the final minutes.

Rosters Sports Club dusted off the host Shuswap Kaos 3-2 in Salmon Arm.

Rosters clicked all night with some great passing. Becky McLennan produced a deuce, while Monika Jatel added a  single.

Daralee Morris and Katie Reid delivered some beautiful crosses with great pressure up front from Renee Cooke and Michelle Connolly. Reid and Tessa Derksen stepped up to share goalkeeping duties and was stellar.

First-place Squires Four Pub/Dr. Lee dental grounded VQA 6-0 at Marshall #4 with six different goal scorers.

Andi Lee, off a free kick from Irene Arrotta, Jennie Currie, assisted by Marianne DeFoor and Loren Brunelle, on a feed by Jennie Currie, supplied first-half goals.

Currie, set up by Jacquie Hansen, Leah Frye from Currie and Andi King on a 20-yard free kick, handled the scoring with Lisa Arrotta earning her seventh straight shutout.

Sportsmanship award went to Frye. Squires is 7-0, VQA 0-5-2.

TED United rattled Courtesy Motor Sistas 10-0 in Salmon Arm. Most Sportsmanlike Player for  Courtesy Motors went to Liz Peterson for her work in defence and midfield.
