Jenkins takes Silver Star title

Sandra Jenkins of Salmon Arm won the 68th Annual Silver Star Ladies Bonspiel last weekend.

Jenkins took the A event sponsored by Kemp Harvey Laidman-Betts Inc. with Kate Horne at third, Wendy Cseke at second and Carol Murray at lead. They pocketed $280.

Simone Groundwater of Williams Lake took the B Event sponsored by Vernon Veterinary Clinic. Groundwater was supported by third Laura Ball, second Michelle Ball and lead Cindy Brady.

Vernon’s Mel Danbrook captured the C event sponsored by RedHead Real Estate with Heather Raber playing third, Jennifer Armstrong at second and Carole Fillon at lead.

The D event sponsored by The Rise Golf Course was ruled by Vernon’s Kelsey Powell, who was backed by Falon Burkitt at third, Jill Morrison at second and Clare Schmidt at lead.

Meanwhile, Vernon’s Jim Cotter opens the Home Hardware Road to the Roar Pre-Trials Monday at Credit Union Place in Summerside, PEI against Jamie Murphy of Halifax.

Cotter, who throws skip rocks for John Morris, is among 14 men’s rinks pursuing the final two berths available for the 2017 Tim Hortons Roar of the Rings, Dec. 2-10 in Ottawa.
