Morris falls to 5-4 at Brier

John Morris and Team B.C. may need some help to reach a playoff tiebreaker at the Tim Hortons Brier in St. John’s, Nfld.

Morris, with Vernon third Jim Cotter throwing last rock for the Okanagan rink, lost 5-4 in an extra end to Brad Gushue of Newfoundland/Labrador (St. John’s) Wednesday afternoon at the Mile One Centre.

Morris, who has a front end of Rick Sawatsky and Ty Griffith, counted a duece in the 10th end.

B.C. is 5-4 with round-robin games remaining Thursday versus Brendan Bottcher of Alberta (Edmonton) and Adam Casey of Saskatchewan (Regina). Bottcher is 3-6, while Casey is 5-4.

Mike McEwen of Manitoba (Winnipeg) tops the 12-team table at 6-1, followed by Brad Jacobs of Northern Ontario (Sault Ste. Marie) at 6-3. Team Canada’s Kevin Koe (Calgary) and Gushue are 5-2.

Koe iced Casey 807, while Glenn Howard of Ontario (Etibicoke) grounded Bottcher in othe4r Wednesday afternoon draws.

The Brier winner advances to the World Championships, April 1-9, at Northlands Coliseum in Edmonton.
