Morris improves to 2-2 at Brier

The Vernon-Kelowna Johnny Morris rink are 2-2 heading into a showdown tonight with Team Canada’s Kevin Koe at the Tim Hortons Brier in St. John’s, Nfld.

Jim Cotter of Vernon throws skip stones for Morris, while the front end consists of Ty Griffith and Rick Sawatsky. Koe and Mike McEwen of Manitoba (Winnipeg) are both 3-0.

Morris scored a single in the 10th end to brush buck Jamie Murphy of Team Nova Scotia (Halifax) 4-3 Monday afternoon at the Mile One Centre. Murphy counted singles in ends seven through nine after Morris went up 3-1 early.

The Okanagan foursome opened the 14-team showdown Saturday by falling 9-7 to Brad Jacobs of Northern Ontario (Sault Ste. Marie). Jacobs recorded three in the fifth end.

Morris bowed 5-3 to Glenn Howard of Ontario (Etobicoke) and grounded Mike Kennedy of New Brunswick (Fredericton) 8-3 in Sunday draws. Morris produced three points in the third and eighth ends to stop Kennedy.

Cotter and Sawatsky are playing in their seventh Briers.
