Michael Rouault did what he could to help the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack men’s basketball team end its losing skid.
But it wasn’t enough.
Rouault, from Vernon, finished with 16 points and six rebounds in 26 minutes of floor time as the WolfPack dropped its seventh straight game, a 91-74 setback to the Mt. Royal Cougars Friday in Canada West action in Calgary.
Rouault, a third-year guard, and fellow third-year forward Joe Davis of Kamloops, led the Pack in scoring with 16 points.
TRU trailed 35-29 at the half but did outrebound the Cougars 39-34. Mt. Royal’s bench outscored TRU’s 18-9.
The WolfPack are now 2-7. Mt. Royal is 5-4. The same two teams played again Saturday afternoon in Calgary.
In Canada West women’s action in Calgary, Rouault’s sister Megan scorecd two points in seven minutes of action as TRU beat the Cougars 67-59. The WolfPack are 4-4, while the Cougars fell to 0-8.
In Abbotsford Friday, UBC Okanagan Heat rookie Brianna Falk of Vernon had the best game of her young college career, but it wasn’t enough to get the Heat their first league win of the year.
Falk had a career-high nine points to go along with eight rebounds, but the Heat fell 65-48 to the University of the Fraser Valley Cascades.
The Heat (0-7) offence would falter for most of the night as they scored no more then 13 points in any of the quarters.
Vernon’s Jordan Korol had six points and seven rebounds for UBCO, who are playing without Vernon’s Jordyn Cullum, hurt earlier in the season.
In Canada West men’s volleyball Friday in Kamloops, Vernon’s Landon Currie had 15 digs and three assists as the host WolfPack fell 3-1 to the University of Manitoba Bisons, 18-25, 25-20, 25-18, 25-22.
TRU drops to 2-7 on the year while Manitoba is 3-6.
